Each square is one day. The brighter the square, the more stories we published on that topic that day.

Five things that mattered

The story with the most sources from each topic.

  1. AI ModelsClaim check: Mixed

Google’s new Gemini voices can copy a person’s voice

Google released two new Gemini models that turn written text into speech.

Why it matters: Cheaper and better synthetic voices help dubbing, accessibility, and voice agents. The protections against misuse, a spoken consent check and watermarks, are so far Google’s own description, and no outside test has checked them.

  2. Agents & Apps

Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse agent, and Shopify welcomed it

Amazon began blocking Muse, Meta’s AI agent that shops for users, on September 20. A day later, Shopify said Muse will be able to pay on all Shopify stores.

Why it matters: AI agents that shop for people need clear rules on whom they act for, what they may see, and who pays when something goes wrong. Until those rules exist, each store and bank will set its own.

  3. Safety & Security

Malware lets AI models vote on its next step, Talos says

Security researchers at Cisco Talos described a new kind of Windows malware.

Why it matters: Criminals are starting to wire AI models into malware. Here, though, the AI only chooses among four ready-made actions. The AI companies can cut it off by blocking its keys, and defenders now have a free tool to look for such code.

  4. Business

Drone maker Tekever is now valued at $6.4 billion

Tekever makes drones that watch borders, seas and battlefields. It was founded in Portugal and is based in the UK.

Why it matters: Europe’s defence tech boom is real, and Tekever has a British Army contract. But the cash received, the company’s revenue, and its AI claims are not public, so the valuation rests largely on what Tekever and its investors say.

  5. Policy & Law

Xi told Trump that AI must stay under human control

China’s leader Xi Jinping visited the White House and talked about AI with President Trump.

Why it matters: The two biggest AI powers now discuss AI at the very top, but they want different things. China speaks of shared guardrails, while Trump rejects new rules. A working alert line for AI emergencies would be a small, practical first step, so watch whether one is announced.
