Maker closes AI hacking tool linked to Korean bank hacks
CrowdStrike says an unknown attacker used ARTEX, an open-source AI agent, against South Korean financial firms. Regulators say data on more than 68,000 people leaked, and the tool’s developer stopped public updates.
ARTEX is an AI agent for testing computer systems for security holes, and it was free to download as open source. CrowdStrike says an unknown attacker used it, with AI models such as DeepSeek’s, against South Korean financial firms from late September. South Korea’s government says the tool was highly likely used. On October 8, its developer said ARTEX would become closed-source.
