What the two sides agreed
The fact sheet says the two countries established the “U.S.-China Super Intelligence (SI) Dialogue” to exchange views on the risks and benefits of the technology. It says the next exchange will happen by November 2026.
The United States and China also agreed to set up a two-way communication channel for incidents. The fact sheet calls them “SI incidents”.
The document also says that the two leaders agreed to use the term “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence”. Axios calls it President Donald Trump’s new and preferred name for AI.
Both governments mention it. Neither has said how it will work.
What China said
Both governments published statements, AP reports. According to AP, the two sides will set up a mechanism for AI-related incidents, with AI talks planned for November.
China’s foreign ministry also said the two sides would sign an agreement on crisis talks between their militaries. AP describes China’s one-page statement as light on details.
During the visit, Xi said the development of AI must stay under human control. He said the two countries share “the capability and responsibility to develop and manage AI for good”, AFP reports.
Many details are still missing
Neither statement says who will run the channel, what counts as an incident, or what each side must report. Axios says these questions are still open.
The channel was prepared before the summit. Axios reports that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent worked on it in meetings the weekend before. Now both governments have mentioned it in writing.
Reporters called the summit short on breakthroughs. Wang Zichen of the Center for China and Globalization, a think tank in Beijing, told AP that such mechanisms could make the relationship more “durable and institutionalized”.
