Google Cloud sells computing power and AI models to companies. Its Model Garden is the place where business customers choose the AI models they want to use. On Wednesday, October 21, Google and OpenAI said OpenAI’s newest models are coming there.
What Google offers
Google says GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out now in a private preview to selected business customers. Developers can also connect OpenAI’s Codex coding tool to Google’s platform, Google says.
OpenAI says the models will reach Google Cloud customers more widely in the coming weeks, Reuters and 9to5Google report.
The models are also coming soon to Google Antigravity, a coding tool, and to Gemini for business, Google says. No date was given.
From Google’s and OpenAI’s announcements of October 21.
How companies pay
Customers buy the models through Google Cloud Marketplace. They can use money they have already promised to spend on Google Cloud, and all use appears on one Google bill, Google says.
Google also says customers’ prompts and answers stay inside their own data area and are never used to train models. The OpenAI models run on dedicated Google Cloud computers.
Rivals that also sell together
OpenAI’s exclusive deal with Microsoft to distribute its models ended in April, Reuters reports. Amazon Web Services began offering them soon after. Microsoft remains OpenAI’s main cloud partner, OpenAI said.
Google now says it is the only big cloud provider that offers all three leading closed AI models, next to Anthropic’s Claude and its own Gemini. The two companies still compete in AI models and in search.
Cloud providers usually take a cut of model sales on their platforms, Reuters reports. The companies did not publish any money terms for this deal.
