In brief

Anthropic released connectors and workflow skills for meeting preparation, portfolio review, records, and compliance checks. Client advice and other regulated work still require human approval.

New to this? Read it in simple words
  • Anthropic released Claude for Financial Advisors on September 14. It connects to customer, portfolio, planning and meeting systems.
  • Its skills help with meeting preparation, portfolio reviews, follow-up drafts and compliance checks. A risk is that a single tool may now reach many sensitive systems.
  • Anthropic says investment recommendations, client messages and other regulated work still need human approval. The adviser remains responsible for these decisions.
  • It may save preparation time. But the launch does not prove a measured benefit for every firm.
Words to know
Compliance
Following the laws and rules that apply to a business.
Portfolio
All the investments that one person or company owns.

The product brings several work systems into one place

Financial advisers often collect information from separate tools before a client meeting. Claude can connect to customer records, portfolio systems, planning software, estate tools, and meeting notes when a firm allows access.

A plugin combines these connections with skills for meeting preparation, portfolio review, follow-up drafts, and compliance checks. Partners include BlackRock, Charles Schwab, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com, and Zocks.

The useful idea is not one more chatbot. It is a shared work surface that can find approved context and prepare the next step. The risk is that one tool may now reach many sensitive systems at once.

ADVISER CONTROL 05
Connected financial data can prepare work, while regulated decisions stay with the adviser.

Claude can draft and review across approved systems. Human approval and a clear audit record remain required.

Human review is part of the product promise

Anthropic says investment recommendations, client messages, compliance decisions, and other regulated activities still need human review and approval. The system can stage an action, but the adviser must decide whether it is correct and suitable.

The compliance skill can flag language against the US Securities and Exchange Commission marketing rule. It can also help record review work. A flag is not a legal decision, and a missing warning does not make a message safe.

Anthropic recommends Enterprise plans for registered advisers because they include audit logs. Logs matter when a firm must explain which data, model, person, and approval created a client result.

Connected data needs strict borders

Firms should begin with low-risk tasks and limited access. A meeting brief may need client history, but it may not need the right to change a portfolio. Each connector should expose only the data and actions required for that workflow.

Advisers also need to check whether information is current. A useful answer should show the source system and update time. The interface should make conflicts visible instead of quietly choosing one record.

The product may save preparation time, but the launch does not prove a measured benefit for every firm. Useful evidence would include error rates, review time, corrected drafts, client outcomes, security events, and the cost of human oversight.

We used Anthropic’s launch page for product scope, partners, and approval rules. Reuters provided independent confirmation, and Wealthbox confirmed one live connector. We do not treat vendor time-saving claims as measured results for all advisers.
