What is inside, by Microsoft’s figures
Both devices use Nvidia’s RTX Spark chip. It joins an Nvidia Grace processor with up to 20 cores and a Blackwell graphics unit with up to 6,144 cores. The laptop has up to 128GB of unified memory, shared by both parts.
Microsoft says the devices deliver up to 1 petaflop of AI performance, and can run models with more than 120 billion parameters locally. The laptop has a 15-inch touchscreen, weighs under 4.5 pounds and is less than 18 mm thin.
It also has a magnetic USB-C charging port, which Microsoft calls Magnetic Connect. Microsoft has given no battery life in hours.
On the device or in the cloud
Microsoft says the devices let people keep more of their work on the device, with less reliance on the cloud. Engadget reports that Copilot can run models locally and use the cloud for extra computing power.
No independent review or benchmark of the final devices has been published yet. Windows Central tried an early unit at the Computex trade show earlier this year.
