Meta launched Muse Gadgets on October 2, an open-source project for building small devices that talk to Muse, its personal AI agent. The firmware and software kits run on ESP32 boards and the Raspberry Pi 5, under the Apache 2.0 licence. Meta also offers a free USB-C Muse Home Link that lets Muse control devices on a home network.

What Meta released
“Muse gadgets are open source devices you build yourself,” Meta’s project site says. The code is on GitHub, with one kit for ESP32 boards and one for Linux.
The site lists supported hardware including the Raspberry Pi 5, an M5Stack StickS3 and the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition. An HDMI stick is listed as coming soon.
The kits and firmware are under the Apache 2.0 licence and “provided as-is, without warranty”, the site says. Meta also set up a Discord community for builders.

The free dongle
Muse Home Link is a small USB-C device that connects Muse to a home network, so it can talk to TVs, speakers and other devices.
It is free with an active Muse subscription in the United States only, one per subscriber, first come, first served, the site says. It is due to ship in October.
Engadget and TechCrunch both report that Meta made 5,000 units. “A little usb-c powered device that allows Muse to connect to your home network,” Nat Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs wrote, Engadget reports.
What to keep in mind
The device code is open, but the agent is not. Every gadget talks to Meta’s Muse service in the cloud.
Muse’s access to private data is already debated. Apple said this week it will tighten a Mac permission because of AI agents, and TechCrunch reported that Muse can switch it on.
TechCrunch places the gadgets in Meta’s wider push to put Muse in more places, after Muse for Small Business.

We read Meta’s Muse Gadgets site and compared Engadget and TechCrunch, which agree on the release and the 5,000 dongles. The board list and the Home Link terms are Meta’s own. We could not read Nat Friedman’s post ourselves, so the quote is credited to Engadget.
