  • Much of the package may be computing time, not cash.
  • The money supports quantum computing, healthcare and energy research.
Words to know
Genesis Mission
A US Department of Energy project, set up in November 2025, to use AI to speed up science.
Computing credits
Prepaid time on powerful computers, given instead of money.
Quantum computing
A new kind of computing that uses the rules of quantum physics to solve some hard problems.

On October 8, the White House held a science summit called “Science: A New Golden Age” at the US Institute of Peace in Washington. Several tech companies announced pledges there, and Nvidia’s was the largest.

What Nvidia pledged

Nvidia says it will commit $1 billion over the next five years to “Super Intelligence and quantum computing research”. The money will support universities and research institutes, US quantum computing, and cloud providers that serve government missions.

Nvidia names quantum computing, healthcare and energy security as its focus areas. It did not say how the money is split, TNW notes, or how much of it is cash.

Eleven companies, one science package.

Pledges to the Genesis Mission from the White House fact sheet of October 8; the five-year period is Nvidia’s.

The wider package

The White House fact sheet lists 11 companies in a $2.4 billion package for the Genesis Mission, a Department of Energy project set up in November 2025. AMD pledged $500 million, OpenAI $200 million, and Anthropic and Google $150 million each.

The fact sheet describes the package as AI tools for science and computing credits. NBC News calls it AI computing credits and scientific tools.

At the same summit, Nvidia’s chief executive, Jensen Huang, received the National Medal of Science, NBC News and the White House report.

How big it is

The Register writes that $1 billion over five years is small next to Nvidia’s profit in a single quarter. It also questions the term “super intelligence”.

Nvidia already builds supercomputers for US national laboratories, including Argonne and Los Alamos. The company says it works with partners on several new Genesis Mission awards, in quantum computing, fusion and chip design.
