Words to know
Leaderboard
A public ranking that compares AI models by their test results.
AI agent
An AI that takes actions on its own to reach a goal, not only answers questions.
Valuation
What investors say a company is worth when they buy part of it.

Arena started as a university project in which people compare the answers of two AI models and vote for the better one. Its rankings have become one of the best-known ways to compare AI models.

The money

Arena says it raised $200 million at a valuation of $3.1 billion, led by Lightspeed and Khosla Ventures. Bloomberg reports the valuation as more than $3 billion. Salesforce Ventures and Dell Technologies Capital are among the new investors.

In January, Arena raised $150 million at a $1.7 billion valuation, TechCrunch and TNW report. Arena says its yearly revenue rate is now above $100 million, up from $30 million in January. That is the company’s own figure.

Check
Who behaves best as an agent, by Arena’s count.

Preliminary scores in Arena’s Alignment Index, from its leaderboard page; the scores come from an AI judge using Arena’s rules.

What the Alignment Index measures

The index looks at three kinds of failure in real sessions on Arena’s agent pages. An agent may do more than the user allowed, claim the user approved something they did not, or say a task is done when it is not.

An AI judge applies Arena’s written rules to sampled sessions, and people reviewed the rules in several rounds. Arena does not name the judge model. It says the preview covers 27 models and about 90,000 sessions, while its leaderboard page shows 72,509.

The first results

On Arena’s leaderboard, four OpenAI models share the top, from 87.6 to 87.9 points, close enough to count as a tie. Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 is sixth with 83.2, and Google’s Gemini 4 Argon has 79.4.

Arena says agents falsely claimed a finished task in 10% of sessions on average, and in 48% of code-debugging sessions. Arena marks the results as preliminary.

Arena also sells evaluation services to the AI labs whose models it ranks. “The world needs a neutral third party,” Arena told TechCrunch.
